SUMMARY:2021 Spring - Virtual Lean Construction Program Series
DESCRIPTION:VIRTUAL LEAN SERIES!\n\nThe Lean Construction Series has moved to a virtual format. There are 13 sessions from March 23 - May 11 from 12pm - 3pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please note\, registrants must attend each class to receive credit for the unit. There will be a mix of attendees from New England giving all attendees the opportunity to meet and network with a more diverse group. REGISTRATION FILLS UP QUICKLY!\n\n\n\nThis is a certificate program that consists of seven units.  Following the completion of all seven units\, individuals will have a deep knowledge of both the theory and application of Lean Construction and be able to sit for an exam to earn AGC's Certificate of Management - Lean Construction (CM-LC) credential. \n\n\n\nMake up sessions are still available! \n\nIf you missed a unit(s) you are still able to take them virtually and get the credit in order to take the Lean Exam. Each Lean unit is 1 hour of continuing education credits for your CSL! \n\n\n\nUnit 1\, Variation in Production Systems\n\n	Understand the different types of variation\n	Learn the concept of throughput\n	Distinguish the concepts of throughput and work in progress\n	Describe the role of variation in production operations\n	List sources of variation in construction settings\n	Explain variation mitigation techniques\n	Contrast variation mitigation techniques\n\n Unit 2\, Pull in Production\n\n\n	Compare batch-and-queue and continuous-flow production systems\n	Distinguish push systems from pull systems\n	Identify the effects of batching on production systems\n	Identify the effects of pull on production systems\n	Explain Little's Law\n\n Unit 3\, Workstructuring\n\n\n	Apply the methods and tools utilized in pull planning\n	Describe the concept of Lean Workstructuring\n	Outline the desired products of Lean Workstructuring\n	Describe the characteristics and application of the Last Planner  System\n\n Unit 4\, The Last Planner System\n\n\n	Building on the work begin in LCEP Unit 3\, this course revisits the Last Planner System (LPS) in greater depth\, focusing on the concept of production planning\, as contrasted with project management. \n	Following completion of this course\, participants will be able to:\n	Apply the Last Planner System on a project\;\n	Hold make-ready and weekly work planning sessions\; and\n	Calculate\, track and analyze percent plan complete for a project\n\n Unit 5\, Lean Supply Chain and Assembly\n\n\n	Differentiate between traditional procurement practices and lean supply chain applications\n	Identify waste and value-adding activities within the supply chain and assembly\n	Identify strategies needed at the project and company levels to support the lean supply chain\n	Expand lean beyond the individual project\n	Create a value stream map to diagnose and improve the supply chain\n\n Unit 6\, Lean Design and Preconstruction-Choose by Advantage Training\n\n\n	Defining Design\n	Applying Lean in Design\n	Contractors in Design\n\n Unit 7\, Problem-Solving Principles and Tools\n\n\n	Team Problem Solving\n	Lean Construction Problem Solving Tools\n	Using Those Tools\n\n Instructor\, Colin Milberg\, Ph.D.\n\nColin has 15 years construction management experience in both the office and the field combined with seven years of university  teaching experience in construction engineering and management.\n\nColin has work with public and private organizations on projects ranging from $2 million to $1 billion\, assisting project teams and organizations implement Lean Construction and Enterprise practices. He  has a Ph.D. from U.C. Berkeley where he studied Lean Construction and tolerance management with the founders of the Lean Construction Institute (LCI). In addition\, Colin co-founded LCI San Diego\, is a member of the International Group for Lean Construction advisory board and is on the core group of LCI New England.
