The Associated General Contractors of MA (AGC MA) and our members are confronting racism, sexism, and discrimination through the AGC of America’s Culture of Care initiative and local efforts. Member firms are pledging to do their part to build an industry that is diverse and welcoming for all.

To spread this message, AGC MA and its Committee for Diversity and Inclusion will host a Diversity Summit bringing construction leaders together to exhibit the elevation of diversity, equity, and inclusion as key priorities for the construction industry. We will face head-on the inequities of opportunities and also share best practices for enacting change to this once traditional industry.

Please join us in this critical conversation that will encourage structural change in our industry.  The Summit is especially geared towards construction company executives and leaders who want to hear from other local leaders about the importance of making proactive change from the top down.

Dion Irish, Chief of Operations, City of Boston

Dion Irish is the Chief of Operations for the City of Boston, where he brings a deep knowledge and understanding of key operational departments. Commissioner Irish has served the City of Boston for 25 years in various leadership positions, most recently as Commissioner of the Inspectional Services Department (ISD) since 2019.

Prior to becoming commissioner, Irish worked at ISD for 17 years, serving previously Assistant Commissioner and Director of Housing Inspections for 12 years. In that role, he helped establish nationally recognized programs such as Breathe Easy at Home, Rental Property Registration, and the statewide comprehensive certification training for housing inspectors.

8:30 a.m. A Panel Discussion on Engaging Men in DEI Efforts

Join us for an important conversation about the critical role of men in the fight for diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace.  In the construction industry, men continue to hold the majority in positions of leadership and decision-making authority.  Without intentionally engaging men in equity initiatives, progress will continue to be slow.  In this panel discussion, you’ll hear from male construction leaders who have become allies and advocates and are leveraging their influence to drive and promote the cultural change necessary to accelerate DEI efforts at their companies.
