Project of the Month - Lynnfield Public Safety Complex
Lynnfield Public Safety Complex
Commodore Builders
Public safety, community, and service – that’s what defines the Town of Lynnfield’s Public Safety Complex project. This important construction project will modernize and upgrade the town’s police and fire headquarters and Town Hall to better serve residents and first responders. Spanning two sites on Summer Street, the 73,000-sf Public Safety Complex project is designed by Tappé Architects, and managed and constructed by Commodore Builders. The owner’s project manager is PMA Consultants.
The renovated and expanded Public Safety Complex at the Town Hall site on Summer Street will feature modern facilities for Lynnfield Police and Fire, while making Town Hall accessible for all residents. The 47,000-sf addition and renovation to the existing Town Hall, Police, and Fire stations abuts the Town’s active DPW site. The proposed new facilities would solve numerous issues that presently affect the police and fire stations. Currently, the police station has inadequate lobby space, an undersized communications center, and outdated radio equipment. Additionally, the police station suffers from insufficient and unsafe space for holding or moving prisoners through the station.
The Fire Headquarters, which is currently located at the Town Hall/Public Safety Complex on Summer Street, will be relocated to a new facility on the current site of the South Fire Station at the intersection of Salem and Summer Streets. The new 26,000-sf facility will feature improved equipment storage and decontamination space, as well as adequate accommodations for both male and female firefighters. The project is being completed adjacent to the existing active fire station and post office. Upon completion, the existing fire station will be demolished.
Construction on both sites will be completed concurrently over the next 16 months, with the expected occupancy of the Fire Headquarters scheduled for early October 2025 and of the Town Hall Public Safety Site scheduled for mid-December of 2025. The demolition of the existing fire station and associated site work adjacent to the new Fire HQ will be completed in mid-December.
